Johnny Winter

Johnny has been working data and analytics since 2007. Johnny began tinkering with PowerPivot, PowerView and Power BI (back when it had a green logo!), and made the switch to a full stack Microsoft SQL Business Intelligence developer in 2016. Since then, Johnny has been building Data Warehouses using SQL Server, data integration with Integration Services, creating reports using Reporting Services and building Analytical Models in Analysis Services.
DATA GOD QUALIFICATIONS
This year Johnny made a conscious decision to get more involved. It started out as a cool name (yes it is a He-Man reference), then became a kick-ass logo, and ultimately launched as Greyskull Analytics; a website, blog and YouTube channel where I nerd out about Power BI.
Working in BI isn't just a career choice, it's a lifestyle.

Johnny has also spent a lot of time working with Analysis Services Tabular Models - most of his data modelling and DAX experience is based on SSAS work as opposed to Power BI. Johnny is not shy about working with the ETL and modelling in PBI itself either though having used it for rapid prototyping or for smaller models where using SSAS seemed overkill.

DATA GOD FUN FACT
Johnny's main passion is live music. He is a massive alternative rock fan and pre-pandemic was a regular gig and festival goer. With the music industry unfortunately shut down during 2020, his wife kindly bought him his dream guitar as a birthday present and has recently started taking guitar lessons.
The guitar music you hear in his YouTube videos is actually written and performed by Mr. Winter himself.
